Well well well… I finally got back into the studio to do some vocals. Yes, FINALLY. The last time I was in the studio, was more than 5 weeks ago… & I must say that I wasn’t happy at all with the vocals from that session. It was a good wake-up call to me as well as a learning experience.
This studio session went 1000 times better than 5 weeks ago. Matt Bell was very encouraging to me. He really knows how to push the envelope. This time, I just sang what felt right & I let it come out heavy & aggressive. That’s exactly what our music needed. Last session, I tried too hard to sound “technical” & accurate. It sounded weak, like it was holding something back. Nothing was held back this time.
I did vocals for “Manifest”, “Peace in the East” & “Never on My Side”. Matt Bell & I feel really comfortable with how they turned out. These takes are the keepers. I’m not trying to “toot my own horn” or anything, but I seriously do feel VERY good about these takes.
This session was a lot shorter than usual too. We only spent an hour & 45 minutes recording. It’s very possible that we’ll be done tracking & mixing sometime in August. Maybe late August, but we’re shooting for AUGUST. I’m going into the studio again sometime next week to record vocals for “That One Song” and “Smoke & Mirrors”. Hopefully, that’ll go just as well as this session. I’ll let ya know!!
